Condolences
Mike- I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful wife. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
As a fellow student earning our Ed.D. degrees at ISU, Joanna was an encourager at all times. As a professor in the Department of Special Education, she gave herself completely (and even shared her family) in order to inspire a new generation of teachers to go the extra mile for each and every student with special needs. The "field trips" her students took to her family home enriched many in ways similar to a study abroad as they saw a way of life much more connected to the land and hard physical work. May the love she so generously gave, come back to the family to wrap each member in love and comfort.
Our condolences. We know the long fight, well fought, wears on all the family. A time for sorrow, then a time for recovery for the family. Our prayers will be with you.
Terry & Family

We little knew that morning, God was going to call your name, In life we loved you dearly, In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, You did not go alone. For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you, You are always at our side.

Bird and family, You may not remember me but I'm Dave Sarginson's cousin from Alabama. I haven't seen you the last couple of times we've visited but think of you every time we come up. You had a hand in teaching me how to shoot dove up at Dave's. I just wanted to express our sincere sympathy for your loss. I pray you will find comfort in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We are so deeply saddened by your loss. We were very blessed to have known you and been friends with. We will cherish all the great memories we had together. You are the strongest, bravest, sweetest, loving person we know!! You will forever be in my thoughts and memories! Gone but not forgotten you will forever be! Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike, Maggie and your family during this tragic time!! Love ya. They now have a special guardian angel watching over them!
We feel honored and blessed that Joanna knew us as "Mom Gathard" and "Papa Bear." I can never thank her enough for our gorgeous, amazing granddaughter, Maggie. How I cherish memories when we moved back to Carlinville and our family "filled a pew" at the Federated Church. When she and Mike married, he became my dear "son-by-heart." As her cancer spread, she often stated how thankful she was we had moved back and helped with transportation with Maggie. Recently, it was the backrubs and foot massages she loved. We witnessed her strong faith many times as she would say, "Mom, it will be fine either way!" Yes, she has been welc omed Home and healed for all eternity."As ever, for always" was how I ended each text. we're here for Mike, Maggie, and her family. Love "Mom" Gathard and Papa Bear
Mike you are a rock in our family and deserved to find the love you did in Joanna. Ours hearts and prayers go out to you and Maggie.
Thinking of you all....my deepest sympathy.
So sorry for your loss. Our prayers will continue for your family
